They know that I am into soundtracks and recommended that I check this one out. They are effective in doing what they need to do in the movie, but rarely are entertaining to appreciate and listen to on their own. There are occasional exceptions to this however, and I must say that this soundtrack by Disasterpeace is one of those that stands out from some of the others recently. Joseph Bishara's work for the "Insidious" movies and Christopher Young's "Sinister" soundtrack are two examples of really unique and entertaining film scores.
They are bizarre, disturbing, and create an atmosphere for those movies that is hard to ignore. We all know that film scores play a vital role in all movies but it certainly is critical in the success of the horror genre. Not only do we have our own personal list of the "greatest horror movies Starz - Smashing Pumpkins* - Zeitgeist all time" but we also recognize the music behind Pool - Disasterpeace - It Follows (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) . When I sampled my first tracks from Disasterpeace, I too noticed the heavy influence of John Carpenter.
It seems everyone is comparing this score to Carpenter's work and I do indeed think it is fair to do so.
Though Disasterpeace may be influenced by Carpenter, he Rich Vreeland does not simply become a Pool - Disasterpeace - It Follows (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) of him. Carpenter's sound was unique because Dressed Inside Your Fear - Dope Stars Inc.
- TeraPunk the type of equipment he used and although it was really cool, that technology had it's limitations. Disasterpeace seems to take Carpenter's musical philosophy and expand upon it Whereas Carpenter had 6 crayons to play with, Rich Vreeland Pool - Disasterpeace - It Follows (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) has an entire case of colors.
This particular score for "It Follows" is indeed filled with color. It is horror music that is strategically crafted to pull the fear out of your subconscious and to Oceans - Pearl Jam - Ten anxiety in those tense moments.
Rich Vreeland uses an interesting mix of sounds to achieve intensity and the diversity of his combinations help to keep things fun and interesting. This is not a score that you are going to relax with nor is it one that you'll want to jog to in Central Park at night. If you want to freak yourself or others out, want some cool Halloween horror house music, or play some fitting music for that new thriller your reading Fans Lands End - Stan Getz - At Large Vol.
2 the film should definitely get this. I am excited to see it because my friends really praised it and this score sounds awesome. So while it may be compared to the work of John Carpenter, I do think that that Rich Vreeland essentially picks up where Carpenter left off. This is Rich Vreeland's first movie score. He has previously worked with video game soundtracks and that is how he was discovered by director David Robert Mitchell. The physical Pool - Disasterpeace - It Follows (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) comes with 18 tracks and your getting about 45 minutes of music.
The CD comes packaged in a cardboard bi-fold with a plastic shell to hold the CD Psalm - Gift - Blue Apple. Not much for pictures or inserts but you do get a brief note from the director of the movie. The CD is produced by Milan Records. It's a great score and I highly recommend. It Follows is a truly awesome horror movie that totally caught me by surprise. This CD is the original music score from the movie and it is truly stunning!
If you loved the movie, you'll love this!! This is one of the best movie soundtracks I've heard in a long time. I saw the movie over the weekend and fell in love. If you're a fan of John Carpenter-esque soundtracks, you will adore this one. One person found this helpful. Equal parts jarring and enchanting, this would be the perfect soundtrack to have a near death experience to.
It was a gift. Phenomenal pulsing soundtrack music! Methodically paced with traces of John Carpenter! A real call back to the Argento and the Romero classic synth with some fresh tones of 8-bit Nintendo stuff! Really keeps you on edge as if to tell you something evil this way walks. Creepy music.
